Elements of the law enforcement intelligence community include the Drug Enforcement Administration; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the US Marshals Service; the Bureau of Prisons; and state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies. Both the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department and the New York Police Department maintain sizable intelligence elements. The first-time job-seeker, or even the second-time seeker, may find the process of entering a national security agency somewhat daunting, especially when faced with potentially more attractive offers and career possibilities from the private sector.
