Fredric “Fred” D. Forney, Sr., 90, a resident of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on October 7, 2025. Born on October 5, 1935 in Columbia, Ohio to the late Elwood and Ruby Forney, he graduated from high school in 1953. Following high school, Fred enrolled at Kent State University, where he graduated with honors in 1957 and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. While at Kent State, he was a member of the ROTC and upon graduation was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate. He was then commissioned a second lieutenant in the US Army Reserves.
Fred entered active duty with the US Army in 1958 and was promoted to first lieutenant and completed his active duty at Fort Meade, MD in 1960. He was subsequently promoted to captain in the US Army Reserves. Fred then began his civilian career at the Department of Defense. He retired as a Senior Management Officer in 1993 after 33 years of civilian service. He was also a 1975 civilian graduate of the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
During his career, he was awarded the agency’s Meritorious Civilian Service Award. Fred was a former member of the Phoenix Society./p>
