Howard Levenson of Silver Spring died on January 31, 2026. He was the beloved husband of the late Eva Halpert Levenson. Howard is survived by their sons Perry, wife Edee and Harold, wife Barbara Levenson. Howard was the proud grandfather of Moss, wife Angela, Ladore Zoldork, husband Austin, Nava, Neiman, Sumner, Grant and Amanda Levenson. He was the loving brother of the late Fred, wife Darlene Levenson and brother-in-law of Mala Berman, the late Leo, wife Lorraine Halpert and the late Nathan, wife Judy Halpert, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a great grandchild, Eva that is named after my late beloved wife.
Howard was born in Boston in 1928 and in1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Army directly from high school as WWII was winding down in Europe. He was a graduate of the Army's Japanese Language Training Program at the University of Minnesota and served with the U.S. Counter-Intelligence Corps in occupied Japan. After earning a B.A. from the University of Southern California and a M.A. degree from Boston College in International Relations he was employed by the National Security Agency as an intelligence research analyst and briefing officer with multiple field assignments at the Pentagon National Military Command Center and also overseas with NSA-Japan, the latter accompanied by his family. He was a lifetime member of the Phoenix Society.
During retirement Howard was available for short field assignments with the C.I.A. as an intelligence operations consultant and between assignments he travelled abroad with his wife for pleasure. He pursued lifelong interests in tennis and bicycling. Howard and Eva were active participants with the Leisure World Ballroom Dance Club for many years. In recent years Howard met and formed a loving relationship with an elegant lady, Eleanor Levine, a fellow Leisure World resident.
The funeral was held at Judean Memorial Gardens on February 6, 2026.
