George William Cave was born August 6, 1929 in New Jersey. He attended Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA, graduating in 1947. He was named Alumnus of the Year in 2001. He majored in Middle Eastern studies at Princeton University (1952 - 1956) and joined the CIA after graduation. He married Joan Barbara McCarthy, who predeceased him in January 2026. Together they had six children.
In the mid-1970s he served in Tehran as deputy CIA station chief, with personal ties to the Shah.
Funeral services will be held 21 August 2026 with a viewing at 10:30 am and funeral mass at 11:30 am at St. Patrick's Church, 4101 Norbeck Road. Rockville, MD. Internment immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery located at 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. There will be a celebration of George Cave immediately following the internment at Columbia County Club, 7900 Connecticut Ave, Chevy Chase, MD.
