Title: Director of Membership & Community Engagement
Job Type: Part-time (Approx. 30 hours per week; Maximum 140 hours per month)
Pay: $40 per hour
Benefits: No retirement, medical insurance, or paid time off
Position Summary:
The Director of Membership & Community Engagement is a dynamic, multi-functional role responsible for managing AFIO’s membership systems, donor relations, outreach initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and public-facing events. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of familiarity with the US intelligence community, strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a collaborative spirit to support AFIO’s mission and expand its community impact. The position works alongside AFIO's Director of Operations, provides key organizational functions that directly underpin and drive AFIO's mission, and interacts frequently with AFIO's Board of Directors, especially its president and treasurer.
Key Responsibilities:
Membership & Donor Management
- Maintain and update the AFIO membership database
- Process membership renewals, new applications, and welcome packages
- Produce membership statistics and conduct targeted outreach to lapsed members
- Process donations and generate annual donor statements
- Respond to inquiries from members, corporate partners, and chapters
- Provide annual roster support and recruitment tools for AFIO chapters nationwide
Community Outreach & Program Support
- Act as the primary liaison for AFIO’s scholarship program
- Support AFIO’s existing partner and stakeholder relationships
- Assist in developing and implementing initiatives to attract new members and partners
- Provide support for AFIO outreach projects and marketing efforts
- Serve as focal point for a major AFIO customer, including a formal annual dinner
- Assist the AFIO president in producing the “AFIO Now” video series
Event & Operations Support
- Provide onsite support at AFIO events (approx. 3 annually), including managing registration and merchandise tables
- Set up and operate basic audio/visual equipment at events
- Pack and transport necessary materials for offsite functions
- Assist with event planning, registration, and use of Perfect Table Plan software
- Provide support at four yearly board meetings, including drafting minutes
- Maintain inventory of merchandise and office supplies; support shipping and order fulfillment
Requirements:
- Proficiency in typical office software, including Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Familiarity with Perfect Table Plan software or willingness to learn
- Experience or interest in public relations, marketing, or stakeholder engagement is a plus
- Basic knowledge of A/V equipment or willingness to learn
- Commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and responsiveness in a part-time environment
