Inside Intelligence presents “A New NATO Ally's Perspective on the Ukraine War's Outlook” [NEW]

Join MS in Intelligence Analysis Program Director Michael Ard as he hosts Veli-Pekka Kivimäki for a discussion on how newly admitted NATO allies, including Finland, view the outlook of the Ukraine war through the lens of heightened regional deterrence and active backing of long-range Ukrainian operations.

A Johns Hopkins lecturer and a senior analyst for the Finnish government, Kivimäki is an analyst, researcher, and instructor specializing in open-source intelligence and impacts of emerging technologies on national security.

Kivimäki previously served in strategic analysis with the Finnish Defence Forces, and for over 15 years in the technology industry, including various roles at Nokia and Microsoft. He has published analyses and taken part in geospatial investigations related to the Ukraine conflict with the award-winning Bellingcat group. In 2024, Kivimäki was awarded the title of Engineer of the Year as recognition for the societal impact of his work.

Kivimäki holds an M.Eng. in Industrial Management from Metropolia University and a B.Eng. in Communications Technology from EVTEK University of Applied Sciences. He is currently pursuing a doctorate at Finnish National Defense University on evolution of open-source intelligence.
