Paul Hollingsworth retired in 2014 as a senior executive from the CIA after a 27-year career in analysis and operations, including three overseas tours and rotational assignments at the FBI and the NSC. He subsequently served in the private sector for ten years as the senior intelligence advisor on Europe and Eurasia for the energy company bp.
Prior to joining the U.S government, he worked as a managing editor for the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute. Paul has served on the Board of Trustees of Hollins University since 2020 and AFIO since 2023.
He holds a B.A. degree in theology from Georgetown University and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in medieval Slavic and Byzantine history from the University of California (Berkeley).
John Quattrocki is currently a professor in National Security Policy and U.S. Counterintelligence Strategy and Policy at the Institute of World Politics. He is a national security expert with 19 years of operational experience and 14 years of experience in policy development and implementation on the National Security Council, the Office of the DNI, and the DoD. He served for several years as a Division Manager and Vice President of National Services Group at CACI International. John also served with distinction as a Special Agent and Supervisory Special Agent with the FBI.
He attended the USAF Academy and earned a B.S. degree in political science, constitutional law from Northern Illinois University. He later attended the Executive Development Program at Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management.
Annette Janak oversees finance and special events for AFIO and manages the association’s daily operations. She brings 34 years of federal service, with extensive experience supporting senior executive leadership, including nine directors of the CIA. A certified Protocol Officer and Event Manager, she has planned and executed numerous high-profile events, most notably the CIA’s Annual Memorial Ceremony. Her career includes senior protocol and executive staff roles, where she led the Honor and Merit Awards Team and served on multiple employee advisory and working groups. She has held domestic and overseas assignments with the CIA’s Directorates of Science and Technology and Operations, as well as with the Department of State.
Carl Shade retired in 2023 as a CPA with forty years of experience in the private sector and the US government, including the Intelligence Community. As a staff officer in the Directorate of Administration, he completed the CIA Career Trainee program in 1988 and has worked as a contractor to the Intelligence Community. He worked in public accounting as an audit manager for Price Waterhouse, in government contracting as Corporate Controller for a defense manufacturer, and in financial services as Vice President of Finance for an institutional brokerage, investment banking, and money management firm. He earned an associate’s degree in Intelligence and Imagery Analysis from the Community College of the Air Force during his time as an Intelligence Operations Specialist in the Ohio Air National Guard and a B.S. degree in Business Administration, majoring in Accountancy, from Miami University.
