WIN Submission Guidelines

Contributions most readily selected for inclusion in the WIN:

News Readers

If you wish to submit content that you found on an aggregator—Apple News, Smart News, MSN, Yahoo, Ground News, etc.—please provide a link to the actual article, from the publisher’s website, not a link to the news reader’s version.

Non-English Content

To nominate a foreign language article, first go to Google Translate (translate.google.com) and translate the article into English. Then, submit to the WIN editor the Google Translate link (the URL address appearing at the top of your browser after the translation is complete). This will allow us to include in the WIN a link that takes readers directly to an English language version of the article.

Book Reviews

In general, book reviews from other publications will not be included. (The WIN and AFIO’s journal, The Intelligencer, publish book reviews crafted in-house, by AFIO members.)

WIN Short-Form Book Reviews

The monthly WIN Short Form book reviews aim to match content with expertise. If you identify a book that aligns with your background and would like to write a review, please register your interest with the WIN editor. If the proposal meets the criteria, the editor will secure a free copy of the work for you. Books should be focused on intelligence matters—not intelligence-adjacent subjects or broader geopolitical topics—and have been published within the past 12 months (or so). Reviews should be 500 words (or slightly more), submitted in PDF format, and include a bio paragraph, which does not count against the word limit. The bio content must make clear the reviewer's expertise as it pertains to the subject matter of the book. The bio can include contact information, if desired, and links to any personal projects or publications or any promotion of other relevant professional content.
